If you missed this week’s podcast, you’ll want to hear from an experienced leader, coach and author Tom Connally on his experience with leadership. Tom’s 30 years in the Marine Corps taught him that leadership is an apprenticed vocation that requires you to keep learning and growing. As Tom explains, the best leaders “teach something every day, learn something every day” to continue to move forward, go that extra mile, and own the mission. This message is even more important today as managers need to ensure that staff members working remotely understand that they are valued so they want to excel. We also look back at an earlier podcast in which Christopher O’Donnell, Senior Vice President of Product for HubSpot, talks about the challenges of team building in today’s “blended” workplace as well as the opportunities all employees now have to do their best work – when and where they’re ready to do it.
FIND OUT HOW TO:
Become a leadership apprentice so you continue to learn and grow
After a 30-year career in the Marine Corps, Tom Connally worked as a director for two defense companies for five years before founding Connally Consulting to help leaders and organizations improve their performance and success. As a gift to his daughter, who is currently serving in the Navy, Tom wrote Becoming a Leader: A Road Map for My Daughter and the Aspiring Leader,” which explores the concept of leadership as a process best learned in apprenticeship to a master – because the best leaders inspire their people to achieve.
Christopher O’Donnell is the Chief Product Officer at HubSpot where he drives product management, design, and user experience for Hubspot’s suite of products. An innovator and speaker, particularly on the topic of team and culture development, Christopher builds teams by focusing on the employee lifecycle: attracting the best people, retaining them, and helping them to grow and develop so they can do their best work.

IN DEVELOPMENT
DO YOU THINK WE ARE READY TO HEAL?
In developing training and coaching for an organization that asked me to “help them heal,” I started thinking and asked this question on LinkedIn and Facebook:
“Do you think, given the recent uncertainty and social unrest, that people are ready to heal?”
I’d like to know your thoughts, too. Please take a moment and let me know what you believe especially needs to be healed from your vantage point. Just email me at ls@build2morrow.com.
Healing will require the input of many people. Thank you in advance for your insights, thoughts and observations. As further appreciation for your time, we’ll let you know what we learn. You’ll also be among the first to participate in this new training.
